The LA Chargers have a lot of upcoming free agents and the rest of the 2021 season is going to help decide who stays and who goes. Luckily for the Bolts, the team has a good amount of cap space to maneuver the many potential moves.
Some plays still need to prove their worth if they are going to get a new contract from the Bolts in the offseason. On the contrary, other players have already proven that they should get a new deal, barring some unforeseen drop-off or big injury.
Not only have these players already earned a new contract but they have been huge in the Chargers' 5-3 start thus far.
LA Chargers who have already earned a new contract for 2022
1. Linval Joseph
Linval Joseph has been really good against both the pass and the run this season and has proven that he still has a lot to offer despite his age. In fact, at this rate, it would not be all that shocking if Joseph gets another Pro Bowl nod.
The defensive line is probably going to be the main point of emphasis for the Bolts in the offseason and the team can keep things easy by simply bringing Joseph back. However, the Chargers should be wary of how much they offer the veteran nose tackle.
While unlikely, there is the potential of another team coming in and overpaying Joseph on a multi-year deal. While Joseph has been great this season, NFL players don't age very well and Jones is already over 30.
That likely is not going to happen and Joseph has earned another two-year deal with the Chargers after the 2021 season.
