Running back: Jerick McKinnon

The best running back that the LA Chargers could sign is probably Cordarelle Patterson, who had a breakout season for the Atlanta Falcons in 2021 and would give the team a Swiss Army Knife on the offensive side of the ball.

While Patterson would be great, it does seem less likely that the team is going to sign him this offseason after signing Williams, especially with the early figures that players are signing for. Patterson is probably going to get a larger deal than initially expected.

If the Chargers can get him for a good price then great, go for Patterson. However, the more realistic target for the Chargers is Jerick McKinnon from the Kansas City Chiefs. McKinnon is going to get a small two-year deal at most and would add quality depth behind Austin Ekeler.

McKinnon proved that he still has something left in the gas tank in the playoffs for the Kansas City Chiefs. He finally got his chance to play consistent snaps for the Chiefs in the playoffs and he played really well to showcase that he can still be a valuable part of a rotation.

McKinnon finished with 150 rushing yards and 165 receiving yards in three playoff games for the Chiefs, averaging over 100 yards from scrimmage when the games mattered the most. Adding him behind Austin Ekeler would help the depth issue at running back for the Bolts for a reasonable cost.
