Uchenna Nwosu leaves the LA Chargers
Uchenna Nwosu really came into his own with the LA Chargers in the second half of the 2022 season. The first half of the season was rough for the former USC Trojan as it appeared that he was not going to be able to handle the workload of being an every-down edge rusher. It seemed clear then that the Chargers should move on.
Then Nwosu went on to have a fantastic second half of the season and raised his value to the Chargers. However, that also raised his value in free agency and while I do not think he gets a massive deal, I do think the Chargers look elsewhere.
Nwosu was great and if they can afford him while also being able to target other players on their wish list then great. However, the Bolts can replace Nwosu in the 2022 NFL Draft and could probably get someone who has just as big of an impact.
The Chargers have to look at the grand scheme of things. While Nwosu is talented, are they really going to commit to paying him on a four-year deal for half a season's worth of work when they can draft someone in the 2022 NFL Draft at a much cheaper cost? Especially when that player would be someone Brandon Staley wants?
Free agency is a game of give and take. Unfortunately, that probably results in Nwosu playing elsewhere.
