The LA Chargers are one of the teams with the most cap space to spend this offseason but with that cap space comes several free agents that the team is either going to have to re-sign or let go.

While retaining certain talent is absolutely a necessity for the Bolts, there is also going to be the desire this offseason for Brandon Staley to build a defense that better reflects what he wants to do from a scheme standpoint. He took over a defense that was not built to effectively run his defensive scheme and it showed in 2021.

For that reason, some potentially big-name free agents will likely find new homes in 2022. Resources are limited and depending on the cost or the fit, the Bolts are naturally going to have to say goodbye to some players on the roster.

But which free agents will the LA Chargers be welcoming back to the fold in 2022?

The Chargers have a long list of free agents this offseason and some of those free agents will undoubtedly not return to the team in 2022. Those free agents include Chris Harris Jr, Jared Cook and Linval Joseph. Bryan Bulaga also won't return but he is not a free agent, he will be cut.

There are also some lesser role players that likely won't return, but either way, it won't have a massive impact on the team. Those examples include Kyler Fackrell, Christian Covington, Michael Schofield, Ryan Smith and Chase Daniel.

The rest of the LA Chargers free agents deserve a more nuanced conversation to break down whether or not they are returning. In the following pages, I will give my predictions on which players are staying and which players are going.
