4. The Cowboys' ST unit continuing to struggle
It's only a one game sample size, but the struggles of the Cowboys' special teams were very visible on Sunday. Greg Zuerlein missed two fairly short field goals. Jaydon Mickens, Tampa Bay's punt returner, averaged 30.7 yards per return. If you're missing kicks and hemorrhaging field position, your special teams ranking will be low. Chargers fans are familiar with that concept.
To be specific with just how much Dallas struggled, they ranked dead last in Week 1 Special Teams DVOA. 32nd.
In fairness, the Chargers didn't have a great special teams week themselves. They ranked towards the middle of the pack in the 20s last week. However, Tristan Vizcaino did make every kick attempt and they never gave up a dangerous punt return or kick return. At the same time, their own punt/kick return game struggled.
For special teams this week, the Chargers just need to be better than Dallas. This would be a great time for returners like K.J. Hill, Larry Rountree, or Nasir Adderley to show some explosion. Currently though, the Chargers just really need to make their field goals and control field position to beat a Dallas team with so many ST unit question marks.
