There has been a lot of incoming and outgoing talent on the LA Chargers in recent years and as a result, there are quite a few former Chargers who are still looking for a home in the 2022 season. Perhaps this is an indication of poor moves in the past by Tom Telesco and former coaching regimes.
Most, if not all, of these players will end up getting signed in some capacity for the 2022 season but it may wait until after teams address needs after the 2022 NFL Draft. As it stands right now, though, the future of these players are up in the air.
7 former Chargers who still need a team for the 2022 season:
Note: We did not include free agent Oday Aboushi as we predict that he will re-sign with the Chargers.
1. Melvin Gordon
Melvin Gordon really fumbled the bag with his contract holdout situation. The Chargers reportedly offered him a deal that would pay him around $10 million a season, he said no, and ended up getting nowhere close to what he thought he was going to get. It was a massive dodged bullet for the Chargers, who saved money and got a better running back out of it in Austin Ekeler.
After his two-year stint with the Denver Broncos Gordon is still without a team and with JaVonte Williams emerging in year two, it seems unlikely that Denver would be willing to bring back the veteran running back.
There will be some team that needs running back depth that will bring Gordon in. Heck, the LA Chargers need running back depth and if they do not land a quality depth running back in the draft and can sign Gordon for cheap then it could work, although many fans would probably be upset with him donning the powder blue once more.
