No. 3: The younger players on defense

Maybe the biggest question mark for next season resides with the younger players on the defensive side of the ball and if they can take that next step. Linebacker Kenneth Murray Jr., a former first-round pick, looked lost at times last season and was limited to only six starts in 2021 after starting all 16 games his rookie year.

With the Chargers letting fellow linebacker Kyzir White go this offseason, Murray will be leaned on a lot more this upcoming season. Perhaps the leadership brought on by Mack will be a godsend for Murray as he finds his place on defense.

Another player to look out for is another former first-round pick, defensive lineman Jerry Tillery. While he has not quite lived up to the first-round hype, Tillery did have his most productive year to date in 2021 and should be able to progress next season given the new additions along the defensive line.
