3. Who will be the Chargers' LB1?
The LA Chargers had a breakout linebacker last season in the likes of Kyzir White and then let him walk away for the tiny price of $3 million. While shocking because of the price, White always seemed like a candidate to leave after his breakout year. Linebacker just is not that important to Staley's defense and the team was not going to cough up a lot of money for one.
Instead, the Chargers brought in Troy Reeder from the LA Rams and are also relying on Drue Tranquill and Kenneth Murray. That is where the real battle lies as Tranquill and Murray will be battling for the top linebacker job.
Stats and performance-wise, Tranquill is the more deserving linebacker. However, the Chargers recently spent a first-round pick on Murray and really want him to reach his ceiling, so he will probably get more benefit of the doubt than Tranquill will.
Murray had offseason surgery on his ankle and he is expected to be at full speed for the start of camp. While Murray was really bad last season and it is easy to doubt him, the hope is that a clean bill of health and a second season in Staley's system will benefit the former standout Oklahoma Sooner.
With linebacker being the thinnest position on defense you could make the case that this battle should rank higher on this list. However, because the position is not all that important for Staley's defense, it ranks third.
