LA Chargers training camp is just around the corner as there is more excitement surrounding the team than any year in recent memory. The Bolts have built a legitimate Super Bowl contender that has one of the most talented rosters in the league.
The first step to a potential Super Bowl run for the Chargers is in training camp. While most of the roster is sorted out, there are several key position battles that are going to have a big impact on the team next season.
Some of these position battles are essentially decided. We already know that Isaiah Spiller is going to be the RB2, even if it is touted as an "open battle". Instead, there are other position battles that are up in the air that fans should pay close attention to.
Here are the 4 main position battles to watch during LA Chargers training camp:
4. Interior defensive line
This is more of a vague position battle as there is so much new talent on the defensive line and it is going to be interesting to see how Brandon Staley utilizes it next season. We know that Sebastian Joseph-Day is going to get plenty of playing time and Austin Johnson likely will as well with his versatility.
However, there are other players such as Jerry Tillery, who would normally be a shoo-in for the third spot in the interior but is not because he is so bad against the run. Muddying the waters is the fact that the Chargers essentially brought in a slightly better version of Tillery in Morgan Fox.
Then you have rookie Otito Ogbonnia, who is a run-stuffer by trade, as well as depth options in Breiden Fehoko and Christian Covington. Fehoko could be the biggest riser during camp as his numbers were extremely impressive last season, albeit in a small sample size.
