The LA Chargers have a much-needed bye week in Week 8 that is going to allow the team to rest up, get healthier and figure out what kind of football team they are going to be moving forward. Despite having a 4-3 record at the bye, it is hard to feel great about the Chargers with how they have played.

While things might not seem all positive for the Bolts, there have been some really promising breakout players that have helped keep this season afloat. If the rest of the roster can round into shape, these players can push this team over the edge and help the Bolts realize their potential.

3 Chargers who have been shockingly great this season:

1. Drue Tranquill

The LA Chargers made the ill-advised decision to let Kyzir White walk away despite a cheap price tag and White has continued playing at a high level, only making that decision look worse. Thankfully, the Chargers have also witnessed Drue Tranquill taking a step up in this defense, which has softened the blow.

Many fans thought that Tranquill would break out in the 2021 season and while he was fine, he ultimately did not have the kind of year that fans were hoping for. However, that has come to fruition in 2022 as Tranquill has been one of the most consistent pillars of this football team.

His impact is felt both on the defensive side of the ball and on special teams. He even took over green dot duties from Derwin James as he is now acting as the quarterback of the defense. The Chargers defense as a whole might be struggling but it isn't because of Tranquill.
