LA Chargers fans finally got to see the Bolts back in action on Saturday as the team fell to the LA Rams in the first preseason game of the year. The final outcome does not matter at all for the Chargers as instead, it is the individual players that matter in these preseason games.

Brandon Staley and co. are continuing the tradition of (rightfully) being extremely cautious with most of the starters on the roster in the preseason. While fans did not get to see the big-name players on the field, there was still a lot to take away from this game.

While a lot of the roster is still up in the air after the Bolts trimmed it down to 85 players, there are three position battles that now stand out above the rest as the most interesting to monitor.

3 most interesting Chargers roster battles to keep an eye on:

1. Backup quarterback - Easton Stick vs. Chase Daniel

This did not seem like it was going to be a battle and in all honesty, seemed like the Chargers were simply going to get rid of Easton Stick. That is at least what the team should have done as keeping three quarterbacks on the roster is a waste of a roster spot.

However, after the team's first preseason game there is more of a battle here than we thought. Chase Daniel did not look very good in his reps while Stick, despite having an interception, showed some promise as being a younger, cheaper backup quarterback.

Daniel's purpose on the team last season was to help Justin Herbert with install and be another positive voice in his ear as he learned a new offense in his second season in the NFL. With that experience now under his belt, the need for Daniel is not as high, so if Stick is the better quarterback, he might win the job outright.

We just have to hope that both guys don't make the roster, as that will take talent away from another position.
