2. The backend running backs
This is more so a collection of players as the Chargers are very thin at running back and someone has to step up. Isaiah Spiller won't play in this game and he could even miss Week 1 of the 2022 season with injury. While Spiller is the best option for RB2, he still has not been as impressive as fans would have hoped.
Joshua Kelley had some hype at the beginning of training camp but that hype has since died down as he has not separated himself that much in the preseason games. Larry Rountree continues to be more of the same and now Kevin Marks Jr. and Leddie Brown have a chance to make something happen.
Marks and Brown are absolutely fighting an uphill battle for a roster spot as they too have not proven much during the preseason. However, Rountree's spot on the roster is far from being secured and if Marks or Brown end up having a huge game where they show a lot it would not be surprising for the Chargers to go that route.
Rountree needs a big game to save his spot on the roster while Kelley needs to prove some of his hype correct and put together a solid game to go into the regular season with. Austin Ekeler is great and all as the RB1 but he needs quality depth behind him and the Chargers don't have that right now.
Hopefully we can at least feel a bit better about the position after this final preseason game.
