With the 79th pick in this LA Chargers mock draft, the Bolts select Travis Jones, DT, Connecticut

Travis Jones falls all the way to the 79th overall pick in this mock draft and the Chargers are more than happy to scoop him up and play him on the inside on the rebuilt defensive line. Despite adding Sebastian Joseph-Day and Austin Johnson, the Chargers could still use one valuable interior defensive lineman and that is likely going to come in the draft.

A lot of people think it is going to come with Jordan Davis in the first round but personally, I would rather have Devonte Wyatt if the Chargers were going to take a defensive tackle with the 17th pick. Wyatt is better against the run and Davis is a bit redundant with Joseph-Day as both project to be nose tackles.

There is a bit of that problem with Jones as well as he too projects to be a nose tackle in the NFL that is primarily used against the run. However, I feel much more comfortable taking a run defender like Jones in the third round than taking Davis in the first round.

Jones does not have the ceiling of Davis as a run defender but he is also much better against the pass as well. His ability in his pass-rushing makes him a viable candidate to play nose tackle on third downs to rotate with Joseph-Day and also opens the door for him to showcase versatility and be the 3-tech if needed.

I really love Jones as a prospect and it is really hard to pass on him if he lasts this long in the 2022 NFL Draft.
