With the 79th pick in this LA Chargers mock draft, the Bolts select Derion Kendrick, CB, Georgia

After not having a second-round pick following the Khalil Mack trade, the Chargers double down on the defensive side of the ball by selecting Georgia CB Derion Kendrick in the third round with pick 79.

Whilst having some good starters on the defense in 2021, LA seriously lacked quality depth, something that is paramount in the NFL. As seen in the games against Kansas City and Houston late in the season, any injuries to the secondary immediately result in disaster for the Chargers.

Selecting Kendrick with their third-round pick gives the Chargers a quality depth cornerback who has the potential to develop into a starter in the coming years. A pure boundary corner, Kendrick is an immediate upgrade on any Chargers CB not named Asante Samuel Jr. or Michael Davis.

Kendrick provides the Bolts with another CB who has great agility and ball skills, similar to what ASJ provided for them last year and is a more than willing tackler in the run game, something Chris Harris Jr. could not do last year.

As a heavy-zone scheme fit, the Georgia CB fits perfectly into Brandon Staley's exotic defensive coverages and should help raise the consistency levels on the back-end of the LA defense.
