With the 17th pick in this LA Chargers mock draft, the Bolts select Charles Cross, OT, Mississippi State

After slipping down the board, the Chargers are able to grab the consensus No. 3 OT in the draft via the selection of Charles Cross from Mississippi State.

Whilst this may not be the most eye-popping selection, especially considering the Bolts took an OT in the first round last year with Rashawn Slater, you can never have enough talent up front on the offensive line. Justin Herbert is obviously the most important Charger, and if you can't keep him upright, you've got no chance in this league.

Despite making all 20 collegiate starts at LT whilst playing in the vaunted SEC and only playing four snaps at RT during his career, Cross would have to come into LA and make the transition to that RT position.

The 6'5", 305 lb linemen thrived in a zone-blocking scheme at Mississippi State, which is what the Bolts run their offense with. His athleticism and excellence in pass protection make Cross everything the Chargers desire and subsequently lacked at the right tackle position in 2021.

Whilst making that switch may take some time, I believe Cross has the capabilities to do so and would be a huge upgrade on either Trey Pipkins or Storm Norton at that position.

Brandon Staley remains committed to building a 'trench' team, and this pick would continue the team's strides towards this goal.
