3 Chargers free agents that could follow Joe Lombardi to Broncos

2. DeAndre Carter
DeAndre Carter ended up having a much bigger role with the LA Chargers than was expected when he was signed last offseason. Carter was signed as a return specialist who could add offensive value as the WR5. While he would be utilized on offense, he was not expected to be a key part of the offense.
That changed when Jalen Guyton tore his ACL and the Chargers dealt with other injuries in the receiver room. There were moments when Carter was the WR2 on the depth chart and as a result of these added reps, Carter had a career year with the Bolts in 2022.
It is unclear whether or not the Chargers will bring him back as the team could potentially get a cheaper, cost-controlled return specialist in the draft. If the Bolts do not plan on re-signing him, any team needing a boost on special teams could really benefit from adding Carter.
The Broncos are a team that could benefit from that special teams boost. Carter would be an improvement on the kickoff and punt return teams and would give the Broncos a depth option at receiver that could obviously play offensive snaps.
Lombardi loved using Carter (a bit too much) in 2022, scheming some interesting play designs for him. That love could bring him to Denver alongside Lombardi.
