3. DeAndre Carter

DeAndre Carter was another example of a savvy cheap signing by the Chargers last offseason. Desperately needing a returner in 2021, the Chargers brought in Andre Roberts during the season and he helped inject some much-needed juice into the return game.

The problem with Roberts is that he did not have any offensive value and the Chargers only carry five receivers on the roster. Thus, the Chargers needed to find a return man that could also contribute on offense and Carter was that guy.

Carter ended up having a much bigger role on the Chargers in 2022 because of injuries. While it was frustrating at times (especially with how Joe Lombardi used him), it is hard not to respect what Carter did when he was meant to be the WR5 during the season.

The Chargers need to add depth to the receiver room as there are only three NFL-level receivers currently on the roster and that equation could involve Carter. However, the team may also look to get younger at the position this offseason, allowing Carter to find a new team.

If Carter gets any sort of interest that drives up the price then his time in the powder blue is likely over. However, if the Chargers can get him back for cheap if they don't like any returners in the draft then we could see him return in 2023.
