7 Chargers free-agent targets with ties to Brandon Staley

4. A'Shawn Robinson, IDL
This might not be an example of depth on the edge as A'Shawn Robinson is an interior defensive lineman but all of the same principles apply. Adding talent in the trenches is what successful teams can do and if the Chargers can add a cheap free agent or two then they should.
The interior defensive line room is in an interesting place for the 2023 season. We still have no idea whether or not Morgan Fox will be back and the rest of the room has a lot of variables. Sebastian Joseph-Day and Austin Johnson should be solid but what about the rest of the room?
Second-year player Otito Ogbonnia showed flashes in his rookie season but is also coming off of an injury and is not a sure bet. Breiden Fehoko played well in the chances that he was given but is primarily a run defender and does not add much pass-rushing presence.
Ironically, the Chargers might need to add a pass-rushing interior defensive lineman, not a run-stuffing. A'Shawn Robinson doesn't quite fit that billing as he is of the run-stuffing variety but that does not rule him out.
If there are any sort of reservations about Fehoko jumping into a bigger role (which certainly is possible) then we could see the team go after someone like Robinson.
