7 Chargers free-agent targets with ties to Brandon Staley

If Brandon Staley has taught Chargers fans anything it is that connections matter. Last offseason, Staley brought in an array of former players that he coached on other teams. Los Angeles traded for Khalil Mack and signed the likes of Sebastian Joseph-Day, Bryce Callahan and Morgan Fox.
With newfound spending space thanks to Tom Telesco's bold restructures, we could see Staley look to make more impactful signings with players that he previously coached on other teams. There might not be a Mack available to the Chargers but there is actually a decently-long list of defensive free agents that Staley could look to reunite with.
Here are 7 Chargers free-agent targets with ties to Brandon Staley:
1. Taylor Rapp, S
The ties between Taylor Rapp and the LA Chargers organization go deeper than just Brandon Staley. Not only did Rapp play on Staley's LA Rams defense in 2020 but he also spent considerable time with the newest member of the Bolts' coaching staff.
The Chargers hired Georgia Southern defensive coordinator Will Harris as a defensive backs coach. Prior to his stint with Georgia Southern, Harris was the defensive backs coach for Washington at the same time that Rapp played for the Huskies.
The Bolts potentially could be pursuing a safety in free agency with Nasir Adderley's contract ending and him being an unlikely returner. JT Woods is an option but he did not prove to be NFL-ready in his rookie season (plus, he could end up being a slot corner).
If the price is right then we could see Rapp stay in Los Angeles and reunite with two former coaches in the process.
