2. Chandler Jones

Chandler Jones is probably going to get the biggest contract among the outside linebacker free agents this offseason and there certainly would be a large contingent of Charger fans who would be happy to see him in LA in the future. Personally, he is not my top choice and I would almost rather re-sign Nwosu, but the Bolts could look to make a splashy move.

Jones has consistently been one of the best edge rushers in the entire NFL over the last half-decade plus and has not gotten the recognition that other big-name players have received over the years. The 2021 season was a down year for Jones in which he still recorded 10.5 sacks and 47 quarterback pressures.

In 99 games played since 2015, Jones has recorded 84 total sacks. That is a 17-game pace of 14 sacks over seven seasons, which is more than Joey Bosa has ever had in a season.

While Jones is a big name and he is going to get paid as such, there is the writing on the wall for him to regress in his new deal. He is entering his age 32 season in 2022, which naturally raises concerns. Plus, after recording five sacks against the Tennessee Titans in Week 1, Jones could only record another 5.5 sacks in the remaining 16 games.

Jones is also pretty poor against the run, which does not help the Chargers' issues in that regard. Spotrac estimates Jones to get a three-year, $43.7 million contract. That might be too rich for the Chargers, but you cannot completely rule it out.
