The LA Chargers had one of the best offenses in the NFL last season but were ultimately held back by the team's poor defense. While the Bolts were a top-five offensive team in the league, they were also a bottom-five defensive team.

That is why the defensive side of the ball was such an emphasis for the front office during the offseason. Before the team even plays a preseason game, the fruit of that labor is already paying off during Chargers training camp.

While it is always easier to look at the glass half full, with how this defense is constructed, it legitimately does have the potential to be one of the best in the league, which would in turn make the Chargers perhaps the most well-rounded team in the NFL.

Here are three reasons why the Chargers will have a top defense in 2022:

1. An elite pass-rushing duo that will make Joey Bosa better

Joey Bosa is already one of the best edge-rushers in the NFL and he is only going to be better in 2022. Bosa arguably has not hit his peak yet and he is still barely 27 years old. With Khalil Mack by his side, all signs are pointing to a massive year from Bosa.

Having the same Bosa and Mack from last season would already be an elite pass-rush duo but it looks like both men are going to be better than they were last year. Mack has looked exceptional in camp and is back with the coach that was his position coach in the best year of his career.

Bosa and Mack are going to elevate each other and as we see all the time in the NFL, having the ability to get to the quarterback and still drop players into coverage is the best thing a defense can do. With Mack and Bosa, the team is going to be doing plenty of that.
