4. The Chargers receiving corps

Keenan Allen essentially has not played this season for LA. He played less than one half in Week 1 against the Las Vegas Raiders before injuring his hamstring. Allen missed two games and started practicing again to return in Week 4. However, a setback resulted in him missing yet another game for the Bolts.

Brandon Staley did not provide the Keenan Allen injury update that fans were hoping for after Week 4, so it seems likely that Allen will miss another game in Week 5 against the Cleveland Browns.

The receiving corps has been underwhelming with Allen out of action. It was much better in Week 4 against a poor Houston secondary that did not properly game plan for Mike Williams. However, even then, Joshua Palmer has not lived up to expectations and DeAndre Carter has not been utilized like we thought he would have been.

Teams should look at the Jacksonville tape as an example of what you can do to this offense. Jacksonville often targeted Williams defensively, taking away anything over the top. While he did get open at times and Herbert didn't throw it to him, it was an effective strategy with the rest of the receiving corps not being that threatening.

Until Allen comes back and is fully healthy it is going to be a struggle for the Chargers. Everything is going to be a bit harder, especially considering the options that Justin Herbert has don't scream separation in the passing game.

Getting Austin Ekeler involved more in the passing game will certainly help and Donald Parham potentially returning will provide a jolt. But until Allen comes back, it should be a concern.
