We are four weeks through the NFL season and at this point, things are really starting to kick into gear and we know the identity of most NFL teams. The LA Chargers are 2-2 through the (not quite) first quarter of the season and it has been an eventful four games at that.
Fans were on cloud nine heading into the season and that only got better with a win against the Las Vegas Raiders. Then the Bolts went toe-to-toe with the Chiefs and for 80% of the game, looked like they were the better team.
Injuries then started to pile up, the team was embarrassed against the Jacksonville Jaguars and then won a Houston Texans game they should have won. It has been a rollercoaster thus far and it is going to continue to have its ups and downs. Through this point, though, there are four things that fans should be most concerned with.
1. The Chargers run game
This might not seem as big of a concern considering the Chargers just had their best running game in Week 4 against the Texans, resulting in three touchdowns for Austin Ekeler. While that was a decent showing, there should still be concerns about the rushing attack.
The Texans have one of the worst run defenses in the league so the Chargers' performance was, quite frankly, the baseline level of success that the team should have had. It is not like the team completely torched Houston as they had a decent game that got ugly when Sony Michel ran the ball.
That is part of the problem. Brandon Staley and Joe Lombardi are giving snaps to the wrong running back as Michel has clearly shown that he is not the guy that should be getting this share of the snaps. Instead, Joshua Kelley needs to get more of a bump, and until that happens, the run game will disappoint.
