No. 2: Rashawn Slater will be on multiple all-rookie teams
One might assume Rashawn Slater, Penei Sewell and the Minnesota Vikings’ rookie, Christian Darrisaw, all qualify as the top offensive linemen selected in this year’s NFL Draft by pedigree and potential alone.
And all three could potentially be in line for some exceptional rookie accolades.
With Sewell going to the Detroit Lions, it’s not hard to figure Slater actually joins the more explosive offense out of the trio, and that’ll ultimately factor into whether or not he makes one of the many all-rookie teams out there by the end of 2021.
For this prediction, let’s assume he gets on more than a few lists.
Last year, Pro Football Focus included Justin Herbert on its all-rookie rankings. First-year tackles Tristan Wirfs of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Michael Onwenu of the New England Patriots were the two selected at their position. All three also made the PWFA all-rookie team for 2020, too.
Heading into 2021, look for Slater to be a top contender for consideration as a tackle on multiple outlets’ all-rookie teams at the conclusion of the season. The pedigree is already there for him to do so. And while the competition may be stiff, there’s a reason why Slater stood out so high among what was otherwise a deep NFL Draft class at offensive tackle.
