Round 6, Pick No. 198 Overall: LA Chargers select RB Larry Rountree III

The LA Chargers took Larry Rountree III, a running back from Missouri with their second sixth-round pick. Rountree comes to the Chargers with a lot of experience going against top defenses in the SEC and has plenty of production as well.

In his four years with the Tigers, Rountree had 746 carries for 3,720 yards and 40 touchdowns. He also added 47 receptions for 289 yards in his career. Rountree will go to a crowded running back room consisting of Austin Ekeler, Justin Jackson and Joshua Kelley.

Rountree is a powerful and physical back who is constantly breaking tackles. He is a hard runner and is excellent at getting yards after contact. Rountree is a north and south runner so there is not much elusiveness to his game.

He does have good explosiveness and always keeps his legs moving, trying to pick up that extra yard. He was not much of a receiver during his career at Missouri but was impressive on some routes during Senior Bowl practices.

Rountree’s role with the team will be as a power back, pass blocker and special teams contributor. With how poor the running back group was last season, mainly due to injury, Rountree has an opportunity to come in and earn a spot on the team, potentially carving out a bigger role as time moves along.
