5. Caleb Farley Virginia Tech
Finally, I’m going to sneak a corner in here, and one that not enough people are talking about with the two corners ranked above him getting most of the attention. Wasn’t Caleb Farley the top-ranked corner for most of the season this past year?
In comes Patrick Surtain after Bama wins the Natty and in comes Jaycee Horn out of South Carolina who I was surprised to know still has a football program and before you know it, Farley is a secondary thought.
Well, Farley is almost certainly going to be there for the LA Chargers at number 13 and assuming two teams take Horn and Surtain (some combo of Dallas, Denver, and the Giants I presume), he’s going to be the best available DB when the Bolts come up.
The secondary was not all that strong in 2020. Chris Harris Jr. still loves to play him some nickel corner as does Michael Davis occasionally on occasions, so how’s about we bring in another big 6’2″ corner to play purely on the outside who has been projected by some expert members of the college football media to be the best corner in this class?
Works for me, and it would be an upset pick of sorts because in a good portion of mocks I’ve seen and also have done myself, Farley is going to the Cardinals at number 16.
That’ll do it for me. Those are my top five optimal picks for the Chargers at #13. I left out Rashawn Slater (a popular name being thrown out there for the pick) for two reasons. First, I love being different, and second, I kind of already like the interior Chargers line of Matt Feiler, Corey Linsley, and Oday Aboushi.
I think this pick could be used a little better like I just spent the last few minutes rambling about.
Let’s see what direction the Bolts go!
