The Julian Edelman Hall of Fame debate has been a hot topic among NFL circles. Edelman was released by the New England Patriots, which appeared to be a formality for Edelman’s retirement. However, I would not be shocked if we see Edelman sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at some point during the season simply to add depth and another ring to his trophy case.
Regardless, joining the Buccaneers is not going to change his Hall of Fame status either way.
The majority of football fans are against Edelman being a Hall of Famer, with a select few thinking that he should be immortalized in Canton. The case for Edelman is his playoff production, however, he also benefitted from the greatest quarterback of all time.
Edelman played 11 seasons in the NFL (he missed the entire 2017 season) and was never a Pro Bowler. He crossed the 1,000-yard threshold just three times and five of those 11 seasons he had fewer than 400 receiving yards.
But he is second in playoff receiving yards so that has to be something, right? No. Julian Edelman is not a Hall of Famer.
In fact, there are former LA Chargers players who deserve the Hall of Fame more than Edelman.
If Edelman gets into the Hall of Fame when these former LA Chargers did not then it would be absolute blasphemy. It is understandable that some of these players didn’t make the hall, but they still have a better case than Edelman does.
And we are not including the likes of Antonio Gates and Philip Rivers, who both will be Hall of Famers when they can be. It is just a matter of time.
Here are the four former LA Chargers players who have a better Hall of Fame case than Julian Edelman, despite his yards in the playoffs.
