Phillip Lindsay, signed with the Houston Texans for one-year, $3.25 million
The Houston Texans have been the butt of everyone’s jokes this offseason for the Deshaun Watson trade situation but this signing could go down as one of the best value signings in the offseason. Lindsay, at his age, for only $3.25 million is an absolute steal.
Our own Chris Phillips broke down why the Chargers should turn the tables on the Denver Broncos and signed Linday when it was announced that he was being released. At the time, I was skeptical as I thought the price point was going to be too high.
It wasn’t. $3.25 million is an absolute steal and is something the LA Chargers absolutely could have afforded. The team could use some running back depth with Justin Jackson’s injury history and Joshua Kelley stinking last year and this would have allowed the team to do so without using a draft pick.
Austin Ekeler and Phillip Lindsay, albeit similar, would have been such a great 1-2 running back punch that would have given teams serious problems. The things that the Chargers could have done with two running back sets and even running Ekeler in the slot would have been extremely fun to watch.
For just $3.25 million, which is around 40% of what the Broncos are paying Gordon, the Chargers could have gotten someone who was just a 1,000-yard rusher in back-to-back seasons before Gordon came along.
