Best Chargers moments at San Diego Stadium: 3. 2013 overtime win over the Kansas City Chiefs to lock up a playoff spot
The Chargers were 4-6 at one point in 2013, and it looked like the team would miss the playoffs for the fourth year in a row. But the Chargers did what the Chargers normally do; make things interesting late in the year.
The Bolts won 4 out of 5 games going into their final game of the regular season against the Kansas City Chiefs at Qualcomm Stadium. By the time the game kicked off the task was simple: win and you’re in the playoffs or lose and you go home.
The Chiefs, who had already locked up a playoff spot, rested some of their starters for this game. This meant that backup QB Chase Daniel got the start. The Chargers entered the 4th quarter down 24-14 but rallied back to tie the game.
The Chiefs then drove down the field late, and It seemed like the Chargers playoff hopes were going to die as Chiefs kicker Ryan Succop ran out on the field to attempt a game winning field goal with almost no time remaining. Luck was on the Chargers side though, as Succop missed the kick.
The game went to OT and Chargers kicker Nick Novak kicked the game winner to put the Chargers in the playoffs as the 6th and final team in the AFC Playoffs. This would also be the Chargers last playoff appearance in San Diego.
