Best Chargers moments at San Diego Stadium: 2. Overtime win over the Indianapolis Colts in the 2008 playoffs

The Chargers barely made the playoffs in 2008 by going 8-8, but it was just enough to win the AFC West and host a playoff game at Qualcomm Stadium. The team they hosted were the Peyton Manning-led 12-4 Colts, setting up a rare playoff game where the home team has the worse record.

The game was close all the way through. RB Darren Sproles ran in a touchdown with 40 seconds left in the first half to give them a 14-10 lead. The second half was more low scoring, with the Colts leading 17-14 late.

The defense, led by Eric Weddle, Quentin Jammer, and Antonio Cromartie, forced the Colts to punt at the two-minute warning. Philip Rivers then lead the team down the field to set up Nate Kaedings’ game-tying field goal from 26 yards out to send the game to overtime.

Once in overtime, the Chargers didn’t look back. The offense once again went right down the field, with Sproles running in the game-winning touchdown from 22 yards out to advance the Chargers to the next round. Sproles had a career night, rushing for 105 yards and two touchdowns, while also catching 5 passes for 45 yards.
