The LA Chargers have to re-sign Michael Davis

Michael Davis is arguably the most important free agent for the LA Chargers this offseason. It is a toss-up between he and Hunter Henry and while Davis will be cheaper than Henry and is not as good as Henry is at his position, the roster need is so huge and the Chargers would be depleted at the position without him.

This is more than just the Bolts spending to keep depth on the roster, though. Michael Davis really took a step up in 2020 and his play warrants a new contract from the team. There were concerns about Davis’ all-around ability to be an outside corner before the 2020 season and he solved a lot of those problems.

Now, he is not a perfect cornerback and he does still have some work to do to develop into a complete cornerback. However, with improved coverage skills and arguably the best athleticism in the secondary, Davis may excel in Brandon Staley’s defense.

Davis is going to have to continue in the right direction and take another step up in 2021 to be a CB1-worthy cornerback. The Chargers are not going to get a free-agent corner that can be a reliable CB1 and they should not pick a corner in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Let’s into who the team should be taking in the 2021 NFL Draft.
