Brian Daboll not getting a second interview with the LA Chargers

It seemed like the LA Chargers were prepared to wait until after the AFC Championship or Super Bowl for the services of Daboll. Just 48 hours ago, he was in the lead for the job via numerous reports.

His connections to Telesco ran really deep from having the same sports agent to being on the same football team at John Carroll. The year he’s had with this Bills’ offense was incredibly impressive on top of everything else.

Staley impressing the Chargers’ brass so much that they didn’t allow him to interview with the Eagles was incredibly unexpected. That also means they were more sold on his overall vision for the team than Daboll’s.

Perhaps the Daboll rumors were intentional to throw people off of their interest in Staley. Ian Rapaport did mention that Staley was their guy throughout the entire coaching search. We also know that this franchise has been known to keep things secret, like when they traded up to take Kenneth Murray in last year’s draft.

Considering all the connections to Telesco, it really is stunning that it didn’t end up being Daboll. At the same time, Staley is very familiar with the John Carroll University pipeline as he was the defensive coordinator there for three seasons.
