5. The LA Chargers’ stars have to stay healthy

I know this is kind of dumb to put into writing as this is not something that Tom Telesco or the team can really control. Of course, precautions can be taken, but sometimes freak injuries happen and it is simply out of the team’s control.

The Chargers’ injury woes have absolutely impacted the team this year. Derwin James not being in this secondary is a massive deal and losing Drue Tranquill early on in Week 1 forced Kenneth Murray into a role he was not ready for and has resulted in bad play in pass-coverage.

Austin Ekeler missed a significant chunk of time, which did not help when Anthony Lynn decided to focus solely on establishing the run. The offensive line has been banged up as well, with new additions Bryan Bulaga and Trai Turner being unable to stay healthy.

That is what happens when you bring in older offensive linemen, though. We have been over this.

This Chargers’ team is really talented but it needs its stars to stay healthy. Losing just one of the bunch could be a massive deal, depending on who the team losses and for how long.

Next. Why December won't save Anthony Lynn's job

Injuries are going to happen and expecting them not to happen is quite foolish. However, if Derwin James, Joey Bosa, Keenan Allen, Austin Ekeler and especially Justin Herbert all don’t play at least eight games then the Chargers will be in trouble.
