1. Xavier Rhodes
Xavier Rhodes is a former All-Pro cornerback and has been to the Pro Bowl twice in his career, most recently in 2019. That would seemingly price him out of LA but he only signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Indianapolis Colts prior to the 2020 season.
Rhodes is not a premier option although he could add much-needed depth to the cornerback position. He has been fairly solid for the Colts this season and would absolutely be better than what the Chargers currently have.
Rhodes has two interceptions this season, both coming against the New York Jets. He has 21 tackles and 10 passes defended. One of his two interceptions went for six.
This would be an ideal addition as Rhodes is primarily an outside corner, allowing the team to keep Harris at the slot as well as target a slot corner in the draft as needed. Then, the Chargers could run a cornerback trio of Rhodes, Hayward and Harris with a high-round draft pick that can ease into his role with the team.
Pro Football Focus (and I would take this with a grain of salt) gives Rhodes a 78.7 coverage grade thus far this season. That is higher than anyone in the Chargers’ secondary this season.
