Another season, another year where no one on the Chargers can stay healthy. All of the Chargers’ biggest offseason acquisitions have been battling injuries.
The Chargers traded Russell Okung for Trai Turner, who has only played in one game this season. Bryan Bulaga has missed three games and only played two snaps this past week before being injured and missing the rest of the game. Chris Harris Jr. suffered a foot injury and has not played since Week 3.
Many other key players for the Chargers have been dealing with injuries this year. Austin Ekeler has been out since Week 4 with a hamstring injury, Drue Tranquill broke his ankle in Week 1 and Derwin James and Mike Pouncey both suffered season-ending injuries.
Joey Bosa didn’t play due to a concussion this past week and has battled numerous injuries so far. Melvin Ingram and Justin Jones each spent time on the IR. Tyrod Taylor suited up for the first time this past week since a team doctor punctured his lung while receiving an injection for his ribs.
Injuries happen to every team, but it seems like the Chargers are always one of the teams that are hit the hardest by injuries year after year.
The start of the 2020 season has been a major disappointment. They have a favorable schedule for the second half as they play four teams with losing records. If they can get on a winning streak and get some key players back from injury, this team can make some noise.
They continue to show time after time that they can compete with any team in the league, they just need to be able to find ways to win instead of inventing new ways to lose.
While Charger fans are frustrated and the season may seem lost at this point, don’t give up on this team just yet. They’ve been in every game and are a handful of plays from having a winning record. This team has been so close game after game and eventually, they’ll figure it out.
There is a lot to look forward to no matter how the second half of the season goes. Justin Herbert is the real deal. Many teams struggle to find a franchise quarterback and we have already found our guy. While it might be a dark time for Chargers fans, the future is bright.
