5. Another wide receiver has to step up

As I’ve mentioned a few times so far, Williams is out in this game for the LA Chargers. That obviously puts extra emphasis on quality targets for Allen, Henry, and Austin Ekeler, but they can’t do it alone. Another wideout will need to have a bigger role to win this game.

Jalen Guyton is probably the most likely candidate to have a breakout game when it comes to the wide receivers. Herbert already threw a touchdown to him against the Chiefs and has linked up with him for a few receptions here and there.

Another possibility is K.J. Hill coming out of the slot. He had two receptions against Carolina and seemed to be on the field more often than he had previously been.

Joe Reed really strikes me as the guy who could make a difference in this game. Tampa Bay certainly isn’t expecting him to go off, so having a few designed runs or letting him *gasp* actually run routes could open the field up for the Chargers. The Bucs probably will start the game by attempting to double cover Allen, so give them a reason not to.

Next. The difficulty of Desmond King replacing Chris Harris

Whoever it is, one of the wideouts has to play big to replace Williams in this one. A good performance that shows one of the receivers emerging could work in the Chargers’ favor going forward. Take some of the pressure off Allen and keep opposing defenses on their toes.
