3. Taking advantage of Carolina’s offensive line

Starting left guard Dennis Daley is doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Chargers. Russell Okung is dealing with a groin injury again and is questionable. Trent Scott and Michael Schofield could see serious snap counts against the Chargers. What a reunion!

The Chargers’ defensive line has been firing on all cylinders through the first two games. They have to pressure Teddy Bridgewater and get in the backfield on runs. Carolina will be missing Christian McCaffrey, so there’s not a lot of danger in blitzing on more plays than they have been up to this point.

Carolina’s offensive line is 25th in the league, allowing an 8.9% adjusted sack rate. Okung is probably their best offensive lineman, but he’s declined over the past few seasons. A lot of that is health-related, but Okung is getting up there in age as well. Joey Bosa took advantage of Mitchell Schwartz last week, so this really should be a great matchup for him.

Bridgewater is effective when he has time to drop back and throw, but he doesn’t deal with pressure particularly well. Patrick Mahomes was able to scramble and pick up a bunch of third downs last week. That isn’t happening with Bridgewater in his current state, which is why the Chargers should bring a ton of pressure.
