The LA Chargers will undoubtedly make promotions from the practice squad.
The LA Chargers roster is officially set heading into Week 1, including the team’s expanded practice squad.
While the practice squad is not part of the actual roster, it is still immensely important for every team as is provides in-house depth in the case of injury or underperforming players. That is even more important this year with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Teams are also allowed to elevate two practice squad players on a weekly basis and stretch the roster to 55 players, so there is a chance we see some practice squad players without any injuries or underperforming.
Here are five practice squad players that will likely get a promotion in the first few weeks of the season.
1. Ryan Groy
Ryan Groy will likely be the first interior lineman that the Chargers pull up in case of emergency and I would not even be all that surprised if we see Groy in Week 1. Mike Pouncey is dealing with an undisclosed injury and if he cannot suit up for Week 1 then adding more depth in the interior offensive line is a smart move.
Groy should be the first man off the practice squad because of his NFL experience. He has been in the league since 2014 and was even on the Buffalo Bills teams that Tyrod Taylor quarterbacked for.
Groy is by no means a saving grace for this offensive line but he is a solid depth option that will likely be called on early in the season.
