2. Derwin James’ unfortunate scrimmage injury

The James segment starts with a highlight tape of his 2018 season. It was an absolute heart breaker just to watch all the hype build around the star safety all throughout Hard Knocks just to get to this terrible point in training camp. Just a few episodes ago, James was getting in work with Keenan Allen and the receivers when things were looking so bright.

James exudes charisma and spoke about potential marketing deals when other players asked him if he wanted his own signature football shoe. This was tough to watch especially knowing the damage his career might take on and off the field from the meniscus tear.

Just this morning, news broke of Jalen Ramsey’s huge $105 million contract. Fans hope James can get that big contract one day, but the odds of that have plummeted from the recent injuries.

The play was a routine defensive stand in scrimmage. After the play though, the knee is very clearly bothering him. He goes down to the ground, gets back up, and walks off into the blue tent. Several LA Chargers were devastated around James, hoping it was simply a cramp or minor injury.

Later on, Anthony Lynn and the rest of the staff get the news that James had to have meniscus surgery and will be done for six to eight months. An interesting quote here that I’m not sure is getting a lot of attention was Lynn mentioning that it was James’ other knee that suffered the injury, not the same one in college.
