3. 2019 Week 1: LA Chargers 30, Indianapolis Colts 24 (overtime)
The 2019 LA Chargers wound up being one of the most disappointing teams in recent memory. Coming out of a 12-4 season in which they looked to build themselves up as legitimate contenders, the Chargers dropped the ball and only won five games.
However, the disappointment did not start until after Week 1 as the Bolts won an overtime thriller against a sneaky good Indianapolis Colts team that quite a few pundits were hyping up before the season.
Granted, the Chargers did blow a lead in this game to even get to overtime in the first place but the final result made it feel like the Chargers were going to have another season like 2018. Instead of losing these close games, the Chargers actually won them in 2018 and this was another example of that in 2019.
It took just one drive in overtime for the Chargers to cement the win as they drove down the field quite easily. Philip Rivers connected with Keenan Allen for 18 yards on the first play of the drive and then Hunter Henry on the second play. Two plays later and Austin Ekeler ripped off a 19-yard run.
At that point, they were already in the red zone and a few plays later Austin Ekeler pounded the ball in from seven yards out to move the LA Chargers to 1-0 on the 2019 season. Little did we know that they would go 4-11 in their next 15.
