2. Andre Patton is a really solid run-blocker

Run blocking? Really?

I understand that run blocking probably is not the first thing that most fans think of when they think of what they want out of their wide receivers. However, based on everything around Patton and the style of offense in 2020, this very well could play a huge role.

Patton is not an elite run-blocking wide receiver but he is above-average and absolutely is better than both Hill and Reed. This is important because the Chargers are likely going to be implemented a more run-heavy offense with Tyrod Taylor under center.

This applies to things such as screens as well. I would not be shocked if the Charger turn the screens and short passes up a notch and utilize Patton’s blocking in the open field.

It is also important to keep in mind how many pass-catching targets the LA Chargers have. The team has two 1,000-yard wide receivers in Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, a top-10 pass-catching tight end in Hunter Henry and a top-2 pass-catching running back in Austin Ekeler.

Targets are already going to go down with the quarterback change and the team might earn more from having a better blocker in Patton than another target in Hill or Reed.

And then in big moments when they need that extra target they can either replace Patton with Hill or Reed or could run four wide receiver sets to add another target.
