LA Chargers: The most important position battles of training camp

LA Chargers’ important position battles of training camp: 1. Left tackle

Trey Pipkins vs. Sam Tevi vs. Storm Norton vs. Forrest Lamp (potentially)

Left tackle is the most important position for the LA Chargers heading into training camp. While the narrative for Charger fans has been that Tyrod Taylor has never played with this many weapons, he also has never consistently played behind a bad offensive line.

The only time he did was in Cleveland. And while the scheming for him was also awful, we all remember how bad he was in Cleveland. Whether or not Taylor can reach the levels that we are hoping he reaches depends on the offensive line.

And right now, it might not look too promising as Pro Football Focus ranks the Chargers 30th out of 32 teams, even with additions Bryan Bulaga and Trai Turner.

That is probably fair, as there is a lot of unknown with this offensive line, especially at left tackle. Right now, it looks like Trey Pipkins is the favorite to win the job, but with him being as green as he was last season I would not guarantee it.

Sam Tevi is the option that fans do not want to see but might simply win the job as the safe option if none of the other guys standout. Then you have two wild-cards in Storm Norton and Forrest Lamp.

Norton looked good in the XFL but that was the XFL and that does not guarantee NFL success. Lap was a highly-coveted left tackle in college who transitioned to left guard for the Bolts and has not even come close to his potential because of injury woes.

Next. The only 3 receivers that are better than Keenan Allen

The hope is that one of these players can show up and win the job with a great showing. If not, the LA Chargers are in trouble.
