Biggest bargains on the LA Chargers roster: 1. Bryan Bulaga

  • 2020 cap hit: $4.83 million

Bryan Bulaga was my favorite signing of the offseason as he helps address the one area that has plagued the team for so many years: the offensive line. Not only did the Chargers get a really solid veteran tackle to help protect Tyrod Taylor, but they got him on a good contract.

Bulaga signed a three-year, $30 million contract with the Bolts but in order to open up space to sign more free agents, Tom Telesco did some great negotiating and reworking of the contract to make sure that Bulaga only carries a cap hit of $4.83 million.

That is tremendous for the LA Chargers. I would not say that Bulaga is an elite tackle, but he is one of the most consistent in the league and he undoubtedly will help the offensive line in huge ways.

Pro Football Network analyst Matthew Valdovinos ranks Bulaga as the 20th-best offensive tackle in the league, but he is not being paid like that. Bulaga has the 17th-highest cap hit among right tackles in 2020. If we combine the left tackles, he moves all the way to 38th.

That is extraordinary and it is not just the best bargain on the LA Chargers roster but is one of the best bargains in the entire league.

Next. Five largest salaries in franchise history

I would refrain from mistaking this for Bulaga being elite, however. Bulaga is going to be really solid and exactly what the doctor ordered, but the team still needs to do a lot more work on the offensive line to improve.
