Biggest bargains on the LA Chargers roster: 4. Nick Vigil
- 2020 cap hit: $3 million
Nick Vigil was one of several signings that Tom Telesco’s front office made in the offseason and there might be fans that forgot this even happened. The move certainly flew under the radar compared to the others moves as it was not as significant.
Both Linval Joseph and Chris Harris are bigger names that were added to the defense that will play a bigger role. The team also traded back into the first round to draft inside linebacker Kenneth Murray, again making the Vigil signing seem less significant.
However, it still was a great signing for the team as it now stands as one of the bargains on the entire roster. For a measly $3 million, the Chargers signed a solid rotational back who will play a fair number of snaps and provide important depth to the linebacker room.
Vigil is great in pass coverage and while he is not known for being a great open-field tackler he did record over 100 tackles last season. Virgil is going to fit into the Chargers’ cover 3 scheme nicely as his ability on passing downs will make him an impact player in nickel and dime packages.
The Chargers have had their depth exploited before and while Vigil is not going to add any crazy new dynamic to the defense, he does fit into what the Chargers do and at the absolute very least will be a security blanket for the team.
