Desmond King became a fan-favorite on the LA Chargers during the 2018 season when he had a breakout year and was voted an All-Pro. King became a household name for Charger fans and the former sixth-round selection looked like one of Tom Telesco’s best selections.

King was still solid in 2019 but he absolutely took a step back. He was not as reliable in coverage nor special teams. He was not terrible, but it became evident that the Chargers needed more secondary help than they may have thought, so they brought in Chris Harris.

Despite being a fan-favorite, there is some speculation that the Chargers could trade King this offseason. While there are no concrete reports of the Chargers shopping him, he is in a prime position to be shopped by Telesco.

It might sound bad at first, however, there are actually some good reasons to trade King this offseason, if the price is right. The trade idea we saw that sparked this idea was via Daniel Popper and Sheil Kapadia of the Athletic. The deal?

The LA Chargers send Desmond King, 2020 fourth-round pick to the Washington Redskins for Trent Williams.

Only 51.7 percent of Charger fans voted that they would do this trade, which was quite surprising, as we thought it would be higher. In order to convey why this would be a great deal for the LA Chargers, we came up with three primary reasons why this trade would make a lot of sense.
