2. Derwin James
Derwin James is a defensive superstar in the making and barring any shocking setbacks, he is going to be one of the best safeties in the league for years to come. Injuries took away most of his sophomore season with the Chargers but he was an All-Pro in his rookie year, proving to be one of the most versatile defensive players in the league.
There are some defensive superstars — typically in the secondary — that have a lot of personality. James is absolutely one of those defensive stars who has a lot of personality.
James represents a younger generation of NFL players as well. We are starting to see players come into the league that grew up in the technology era that relates much more to the young audiences that watch the NFL.
James should be the figurehead of this youth movement in the NFL that is with the times, especially technology, as he has been dominating other star football players in Madden. James not only won EA Sports’ recent Madden 20 tournament, he beat Tyreek Hill in the championship game 52-3.
James is fun, he is electric and he is going to get even more fans throughout ‘Hard Knocks’, especially within the young NFL fanbase that is not already a fan of the LA Chargers.
