2. Joey Bosa, 2016
The first and second player on this list could go either way and is pretty subjective, so you might be surprised to see Joey Bosa not be the number one player. As a fan, I personally like the first player on this list more, hence why Bosa is second.
When Bosa is on the field he is one of the best defensive ends in football. He recorded 23 sacks in his first 28 career games and in 2017 put together a year good enough to win the Defensive Player of the Year award.
In fact, you can compare Bosa’s 2017 to Aaron Donald‘s 2017 and you would realize that there would not be much of a difference.
Bosa battled injuries in 2017 and was not a big player on a Chargers team that went 12-4 until late in the year and then returned and played a full 16-game season in 2019. Bosa returned to the Pro Bowl as well, recording 11.5 sacks and 67 tackles.
Bosa is a great player and is a franchise-building player on the defensive end and every Charger fan should be hoping for Bosa to sign a new contract after the 2020 season.
However, he still is not the best player the Chargers have drafted the last five years, as the best player has already shown a higher ceiling.
