Chargers moment: Russell Okung is diagnosed with pulmonary embolism

The Chargers were not prepared for Okung’s absence, and it has cost the team. So much so, in fact, that their franchise quarterback is not looking at all like himself.

Trey Pipkins has come in and performed admirably over the past two weeks; unfortunately, it took until Week 10 for him to take significant snaps. There were a number of games with Trent Scott at left tackle where Rivers simply could not avoid being hit every series, often for a sack. It was dreadful to watch.

Chargers moment: Derwin James breaks his foot

Not many teams can just up-and-recover from losing their All-Pro, Pro-Bowl, vocal, dynamic, and versatile strong safety on defense and come firing strong out of the gate. Gus Bradley, though subject to lapses at times, has truly done a brilliant job with the players he has; though, to be fair, he has Joey Bosa and Casey Hayward, among others. However, it’s hard to imagine the defense faltering as often as it has had James been in the game. Does Travis Kelce have his first career touchdown against the Chargers with No. 33 in?

James makes a world of difference; that’s why so many fans hold on to hope following the bye week. However, it just simply took too long for him to return, and now the Chargers require losses from other teams to help them reach the postseason.
