Chargers: Injuries Continued
Justin Jones, Defensive Tackle – Out (Shoulder)
Brandon Mebane, Nose Tackle – Out (Knee)
Unfortunately, the Chargers picked an awful week to be missing their two starting interior defensive linemen, as they will be facing a powerful Tennessee rushing attack headed by Derrick Henry.
Without these two, Damion Square and Jerry Tillery will likely be given the start. Square is a decent run-stuffer, but Tillery has been awfully inconsistent to start the season. Expect the Chargers to frequently load the box and push the Titans to put the ball in the hands of Ryan Tannehill.
Melvin Ingram III, Defensive End – Doubtful (Hamstring)
While Ingram was given his massive contract due to his pass-rushing ability, what the Chargers will miss most from him in this game is his underrated ability to stop the run. Uchenna Nwosu will again be tasked with holding his spot. Nwosu has clearly been better against the pass than the run in his career, so his progress in run support will be put to the test in this game.
Nasir Adderley, Safety – Out (Hamstring)
Adderley will be absent again for the Chargers. While he would be unlikely to factor into the gameplan if healthy, his lengthy absence has grown concerning to the point that coach Anthony Lynn has said that Adderley’s year is looking like a redshirt season, per Orange County Register’s Gilbert Manzano.
Michael Badgley, Kicker – Questionable (Groin)
With two full practices and one limited practice this week, Badgley looks like he is close to being ready to roll this week. While an active Badgley would likely give the Chargers a slight upgrade at kicker, the Bolts have managed just fine without him.
It will be interesting to see if the Chargers decide to cut Chase McLaughlin in the coming weeks or create a regular-season kicking competition, as Lynn said could happen, per NBC San Diego’s Fernando Ramirez.
