The Chargers have signed a new kicker as Michael Badgley continues to be sidelined. They did this not because Ty Long has struggled, but because he is simply wearing himself out with all the work he is putting in.

Coach Lynn reported that Long’s plant foot was getting sore. It’s a good chance that happened as he went 3-for-3 on field goals and 3-for-3 on extra points including a 51-yard bomb field goal. If this is the end of the Long kicking experiment, we will have to remember it more for games like this than the game in Detroit.

Long should stick around for punting duties, but should Badgley catch the injury bug yet again, the Bolts can be secure in the Long-man to step in with more than adequate grace and poise.

Final Grades:

Offense: A

Defense: B+
